Romania would not recognize Kosovo's unilaterally proclaimed independence, despite the fact that the European Parliament (EP) has called on all EU member-states to do so.

Romania is waiting for the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and would stick to its position, Baconschi said.

Romania deeply respects the principles of the EP's recommendations, but at the same time, it has its own position regarding Kosovo, which is just as principled.

The EP adopted a resolution on Thursday calling on all EU member-states to recognize Kosovo's independence.

The document states that the EU will welcome the recognition of Kosovo's independence by all EU countries, reiterating that so far 22 out of 27 EU member-states have recognized Kosovo and five of them have not-Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.
