"Important dates are awaiting in mid-December and it is important that all sides get engaged in finding a solution which would be acceptable to all and on which all sides would agree", Solana said after meeting Albanian President Bamir Topi in Brussels.

Solana urged Albania to play a "constructive role for the stability of the Balkans".

The EU's foreign policy chief had met with the Pristina delegation as well as the Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica during the Tuesday fifth round of direct talks in Brussels.

Belgrade criticized Pristina for not willing to negotiate and just sitting and waiting for the December 10 deadline for the Troika report to the UN, after which the Kosovo Albanian politicians have announced they would proclaim independence.
