UNMIK is willing to support talks between Pristina and Belgrade and to act as mediator, said spokesman for the UN mission in Kosovo Russell Geekie.

According to Geekie, UNMIK supports and encourages depoliticized talks on technical issues, but it is up to Pristina and Belgrade to decide what the talks will be like.

Geekie reminded that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Catherine Aston exchanged letters in which they expressed their willingness to play a joint role in the talks between Belgrade and Pristina.

UN supports the importance of the role that the EU must have when it comes to talks on the European perspective of the region, said Geekie.
