UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon gave his support for the adoption of the Kosovo resolution by the General Assembly and offered to help in starting the negotiation process.

Ban noted the "importance of dialogue between the two sides as a method of achieving peace, security and stability" in the region and "confirmed the offer of the UN to contribute to these efforts, in close cooperation with the EU," his spokesperson stated.

European Foreign Affairs and Security Policies Chief Catherine Ashton stated that the EU expects dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and is ready to help.

She also commended the role of the EU, which worked together as a team despite differences in stances regarding the recognition of Kosovo's unilaterally proclaimed independence.
