Elections in Kosovo in February?

Kosovo Acting President Jakup Krasniqi had a meeting with CEC President Valdete Daka on Friday.
It was announced after the meeting that the CEC was technically ready to organize the elections but that it was impossible to do so within by law envisaged 45 days due to numerous challenges.

"In order to ensure fair, free and transparent elections certain conditions have to be met, from an adequate budget, logistics, putting electoral rolls into order, issues of public information and voting abroad and support of the international community," the Kosovo presidency announced.

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) leader and former Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said after a party meeting in Pristina that the LDK would not support early elections in Kosovo.

The former president stressed that an optimal deadline for holding of the elections was four to six months, Pristina-based daily Koha Ditore has reported.

"It is necessary to pass a law on the elections and electoral lists and solve other issues before the elections are held, in order for the process to take place normally," Sejdiu said.

The LDK said in the announcement that after Sejdiu's resignation early elections in Kosovo should be well-prepared, with consensus of all parties and in accordance with the Constitution and the law, bearing in mind the current political situation.

According to Koha Ditore, Krasniqi will propose February 6 or 13 as possible election dates.
