Tadic: "Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should start with life issues"

Such a dialogue should be conducted by experts, rather than the president, premier or ministers, he stated, and added that this was the only way to reach compromise and a mutually acceptable solution.

He mentioned the issue of missing persons as one that is of interest to both Serbs and Albanians.

Asked to comment on U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's statement that there will be no talks on the status of Kosovo, Tadic said that there ought to be patience, and that "problems should not jeopardize Serbia's vital interests".

"Despite disagreements, what matters the most is that we succeed at managing problems, rather than jeopardizing our vital interests," he said, adding that in politics "there ought to be ability to solve problems even when you disagree".

He also urged as much agreement as possible from parliamentary parties when it comes to the question of Kosovo.

"We need as big a majority in parliament as possible to solve issues of the epoch such as Kosovo" he said, adding that "Kosovo is a parliamentary issue that is bigger than the government".
