The paper writes that the case of organ-trafficking in Kosovo, of which a former high official of the Kosovo Ministry of Health is also charged, is a test for judiciary and the rule of law at the moment when Kosovo is trying to overcome lawlessness and corruption.
Nat least seven people have been charged for trafficking of organs from impoverished victims and sold for up to 200,000 USD to patients from countries as far away as Israel and Canada.
According to indictment, organ traffickers lured poor people from Istanbul, Moscow, Moldova and Kazakhstan with promises of up to 20,000 USD for their organs. Police believe that they might have never received a single cent and state that surgeries were performed at a private clinic on the outskirts of Pristina.
