The Serb returnees have been living in tents since last summer, expecting to move into their newly-built homes.

The Kosovo Albanian government in Pristina has provided the house construction but the majority of the houses have yet to be completed despite the fact that there was enough time to complete the project.

Buehler said he was concerned over the present situation of the Serb families living in Zac.

This is particularly evident in the water supply system works, the construction of which is delayed, KFOR underscored in a statement.

Last spring, 26 Serb families returned to Zac. Accused of being "war criminals" by local ethnic Albanians, the returnees have been facing protests, stoning of their tents, and on several occasions shots were fired in the direction of their camp.

Kosovo police (KPS) said that they apprehended all perpetrators.
