Mutinational Battle Group North commander Frank Barrera said that KFOR will also be reorganized. He specified that the force would have two battalions, instead of the current four, which will operate throughout Kosovo.
The headquarters of the battalions will be in Pec, western Kosovo, and at Camp Bondsteel, near the town of Urosevac in the south of the province, while the main headquarters will be in Pristina.
Barrera stated that the situation in his area of responsibility in northern Kosovo was "stable, but still fragile".
The troop reduction will not affect security, he asserted.
"KFOR will be more mobile and able to react faster once the reorganization is complete, he told a news conference at Camp Belvedere," northern Kosovo.
Barrera will be replaced by a new commander of the northern sector on January 7, 2011.
