Kostunica: It is important that the EU refrained from acknowledging unilateral moves
Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said Monday that it was extremely important that the EU foreign ministers had not reached a decision acknowledging Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence at their meeting in Brussels, as that would be a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

"If the EU had decided on unilaterally recognizing Kosovo's independence, that would have been a serious problem for the relations between Serbia and the EU," Kostunica said.
He also said that instead several EU countries had remained dedicated to implementing the current UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which bound all countries to respect Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Now there are even more reasons to go on with the negotiations, in order to find a compromise solution that would be in accordance with the UN Charter and the Serbian Constitution," Kostunica said.
