After a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Dragan Sutanovac, Melescanu said that it was important for the EU to have a united position on Kosovo.

Following the possibility of Kosovo making a unilateral declaration of independence, Melescanu said that the parliaments of EU's member states should decide on a position on Kosovo, and that "given the state of things in the Romanian Parliament, I do not think it would support that kind of decision."

The EU members which are against Kosovo's independence are Romania, Cyprus, Slovakia, Greece and Spain.
