Afghan diplomat Farid Zarif to head UNMIK
Afghan diplomat Farid Zarif took over the position of acting chief of UNMIK. Zarif, a diplomat with long experience in international missions, arrived in Pristina.

Zarif was a coordinator of the UN mission in Baghdad in the 1990s, chief of staff the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq, deputy head of the UN mission in Sudan, as well as Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan. From August 2010, he was a Director of Europe and Latin America Division in the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
