Diplomatic effort to prevent Kosovo Albanian plans

Ivica Dacic says Serbia was conducting a diplomatic campaign to prevent Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci from sending Kosovo customs to the administrative line.

"We have faith in the efforts of international security forces, but we are very worried by the fact that some wish to reignite the fire of conflicts. The level of security remains the same, that is, it is elevated, with the goal of preserving peace in that area," Serbia's interior minister said.

Dacic noted that Serbia has the right to prevent the situation in the north of Kosovo from deteriorating again.

Dacic said that the authorities were working to diplomatically prevent "such actions by the Priština government".

"We are undertaking activities to prevent Thaci and his appraisal that now is the ideal time for such steps, because Serbia awaits EU candidate status.

Dacic said that "several non-Serb policemen and customs officers at administrative crossings would not represent a security, but rather a symbolic problem, as it would have symbolic meaning for Thaci that some interest of theirs had been fulfilled".
