Serb murdered, two others wounded

Eyewitnesses said that the three Serbs were attacked by ethnic Albanians in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica.

Earlier in the evening, reports said that two victims underwent surgery and were receiving further medical treatment in the Kosovska Mitrovica Health Center.

But of them - identified as Savo Mojsic - in the meanwhile succumbed to his injuries.

The third Serb - a member of the Kosovo police, KPS - is said to have sustained light wounds.

The situation in the ethnically divided town is described as tense.

The incident happened around 20:00 CET in the ethnically mixed neighborhood of Brdjani.

Eyewitnesses said that the three Serbs were attacked by ethnic Albanians.

KPS spokesman Besim Hoti confirmed that the incident took place in a statement for Beta news agency.

He at the same time said that the KPS "knows nothing about suspects, nor under which circumstances firearms were used".

Hoti was also quoted as saying that the incident happened "during an argument between Serbs and Albanians", but that firearms were used by a person or persons that did not take part in the altercation.

The spokesman added that "units were dispatched to the field".

A Tanjug news agency reporter said that police were investigating the scene, and that traffic was blocked in this part of the town.
