Kosovo shouldn’t be allowed to use Albania’s country code
Phone codes are assigned to countries after they become UN members and it would be a serious precedent if Kosovo is allowed to use the phone code of Albania.

This is according to International Telecommunication Union Secretary-General Hamadoun Toure.
He said in Tirana that accepting the resolution adopted by the Kosovo parliament on using the phone prefix of Albania (+355) instead of Serbia's (+381) for fixed and mobile telephony would be a serious precedent.
"The usage of a code from another country will cause many technical problems," Toure said after meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Berisha told a joint press conference that he was completely in favor in principle and added that he would give a final opinion on Kosovo's usage of Albanian international prefix after consulting the experts.
The Kosovo assembly adopted Thursday a resolution by which it requests the government to perform all necessary actions in order for the international prefix for fixed telephony 381, and two mobile prefixes 377 and 386, to be replaced with the unique country code of Albania - 355.
Serbian Trade and Telecommunications Minister told that he expected the implementation of the resolution adopted by the Kosovo assembly to be stopped.
The Serbian minister has already sent a letter to Toure, asking him to stop Pristina's plans that represent abuse of the international agreements and standards.
