United Nations Security Council will tackle the situation in Kosovo once again in early January amid rather aggressive preparations of Kosovo Albanians to unilaterally declare the independence of the Serbian breakaway province and Belgrade's significant opposition to such a move.

The chief of UNMIK Joachim Ruecker will present his regular three-month report to 15-member body on Jan. 8 or 9, but the format of next Kosovo-related meeting in New York has not been discussed yet due to the Christmas holidays, UN diplomats told KosovoCompromise.com.

The format of the meeting could prove to be a too complicated task for diplomats in Security Council, as Russia and Western countries continued the exchange of harsh words over the Kosovo's future.

In January, the Security Council will be chaired by Libyan Ambassador Giadalla Azzuz Belgassem Ettalhi.
