Grenade blasts in front of Serb-inhabited building

An unknown person triggered a M75 hand grenade in the northern Kosovo city of Kosovska Mitrovica late Sunday evening, the Kosovo police said in a release Monday.

At 10.30 p.m. Sunday, the grenade went off on a path in front of the building inhabited by about fifty Serbs, who were greatly upset by the explosion.

Nobody got injured in the blast, but it caused a considerable material damage, according to the release.

With two cars and a number of windows of two apartments in a building of Kolasinska street damaged, the police ćaracterized the act as a criminal offence of causing general danger.

The building is located on the outskirts of the city, on the road to a multiethnic village of Suvi Do.

The Kosovo Police said that an investigation was underway to reveal the motives and circumstances of the criminal act, adding that the perpetrator was still unknown.

This was the second serious incident očurring in Kosovo-Metohija during the weekend.

The first one took place on the road between Suvi Lukavac and Srbobran in the municipality of Istok late Saturday afternoon, when an unknown attacker shot at a car owned by Serb Momir Pantic (53), who got wounded in the arm.
