Vulin: Release of Haradinaj to harm talks

Aleksandar Vulin, director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo, stated Saturday that the acquittal of two Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac and potential release of former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Ramus Haradinaj will undoubtedly harm the Belgrade-Pristina talks.

"Following the reverse of the verdict to Naser Orlic, former commander of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Army, the acquittal of Croatian generals Gotovina and Markac, the only thing that remains for the ICTY to do is to release Ramus Haradinaj, and thus set free all perpetrators of crimes against Serbs," Vulin said in a statement.

"These acquittals show that crimes against Serbs are actually no crimes. The ICTY verdict and potential liberation of Ramus Haradinaj will undoubtedly harm the Belgrade-Pristina talks," Vulin warned.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) acquitted Friday Croatian Generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac of a joint criminal enterprise in the Croatian Operation Storm in August 1995.

According to the first instance verdict delivered on April 15, 2011, Gotovina and Markac were sentenced to 24 and 18 years respectively.
