Kosovo Serbs have no reason to protest

Serbia's Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said on Wednesday the current situation at the crossings with Kosovo would not change, adding that northern Kosovo Serbs had no reason to protest as Serbia would suspend the agreement immediately if the guarantees he had received in Brussels were not fulfilled.

"Once these crossings open, the method will not change compared to the current situation. There is not reason for anyone to protest in any way," Dacic told.

Serbia will disperse those protesting on "our side of the administrative crossing," he noted, adding that the protest had to be organized working with the government, and not against it.

"I think we should see what real life is like in Kosovo for the 40,000-50,000 who live in its north and if we are going to run a single policy. We have to be aware of the consequences of such actions," Dacic stated.

He wondered why the Serbs from northern Kosovo would need any guarantees better than the ones from the Serbian government and added that Serbia could not now ask the EU to issue written guarantees about something already signed back in February.

The agreement will be implemented at 4 crossings by the end of 2012, while other topics will be discussed from January, he said.

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has announced that he will meet with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Wednesday evening in order to inform him about the talks he had with Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim Taci in Brussels.

Dacic said for Radio and Television of Serbia that the topic of the meeting with Nikolic will be further steps in the talks with Pristina.

"I have also invited Parliament Speaker (Nebojsa Stefanovic) and some more operatives as certain members of the government are abroad," the prime minister said.

The goal is to agree in detail on further steps, and I will inform the president about the talks in Brussels, Dacic said.
