"I expect the situation to calm down after yesterday's meeting (of the Kosovo Serbs representatives) with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and also that the Serbs in northern Kosovo will realize that it is in their interest (for the situation to ease up) and that they will adopt such a conclusion at the municipal assembly sessions," Stefanovic told reporters in Serbian parliament.

He reiterated that Serbia would never change its position and would never recognize Kosovo's independence, even though the EU remained a strategic goal.

According to Stefanovic, the Serbian president will present the platform, which is in the final phase of drafting, before the parliament's senior officials and whips on December 17, soon after which a plenary session should be held to have the parliamentary delegates acquainted with the document.

Stefanovic said that the goal was to continue the talks between Belgrade and Pristina with the support of the parliament and to enable the general public being informed about what was taking place in them.

"I expect that unity and consensus will be achieved and I believe that everyone understands that pursuing the state policy is the most important thing to do, much more important than pursuing the party interests," Stefanovic concluded.
