Jaksic told Tanjug that his Hyundai was set on fire around 3 a.m. CET.

He added that firefighters extinguished the fire, but that the automobile is almost completely destroyed.

Jaksic said he did not get any information from the Kosovo police on an investigation into the incident, but that he assumes that this has a "political background," adding that the Albanians from the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica did it because he advocates that Kosovo is Serbia.

The Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija strongly condemned the burning of Jaksic's car.

"For the umpteenth time, we underline that unpunished violence creates new violence, which is why we require urgent detection and punishment of perpetrators of this incident," the Office released in a statement.
