Dacic: Define new platform propositions next week

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic announced that new propositions and remarks regarding the platform on Kosovo which were voiced during the talks with opposition leaders, representatives of Kosovo Serbs and in the ruling coalition would be defined next week.

In a programme broadcast by Television, Dacic reiterated that the platform constitutes Serbia's view on the solution to the Kosovo issue and that it does not imply that Albanians and the international community have the same opinion.

Dacic underscored that he has his own opinion and stand on this matter but it is not certain whether he can impose his own opinion as the stand of the entire country when it comes to the solution to the Kosovo issue, Dacic said.

He noted that Serbia must not end up in a 'no-way-out situation' and that it needs to move forward, adding that the Kosovo issue and European integration are closely connected and that one cannot be resolved without the other.

Serbia can adopt the decision not to access the EU, but it needs to be aware of the consequences of the decision, Dacic underscored and added that this is the reason why the country needs to define a realistic policy which can be achieved.

The prime minister said that if the choice between Serbia and Kosovo had to be made, he himself would opt for Kosovo, just like most Serbian citizens.

Still, he said, if we say that the country does not want to join the EU and wants to preserve Kosovo instead, it would never bring back Kosovo.

We can say that we will bring Kosovo back to our constitutional jurisdiction, Dacic said and added that he would not like to see those that brought down Milosevic's regime insisting on the return to the old policy. Dacic added that he drew his lesson from the year of 2000.

Urgently send envoys to Muslim countries

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Sunday that Serbia needs to urgently send its envoys to countries which have not recognised Kosovo's independence yet, especially the big Muslim countries.

In a programme broadcast by Television Prva, Dacic said that Pakistan recently recognised independent Kosovo and that if Egypt does the same, Serbia can suffer severe consequences.

I am not sure whether we are aware that we are facing a no-way-out situation, because Pakistan has recognised Kosovo's independence, Dacic said and asked whether anyone is considering the countries that have not recognised Kosovo's independence yet.

He recalled that Fiji has also recognised Kosovo's independence just because representatives of Kosovo government went there for lobbying purposes.

Dacic expressed certainty that 99 percent of Serbian citizens have no idea where Fiji is just like the people of Fiji have no idea where Serbia and Kosovo are.

They do not care about our problems but the officials who went there, whether (Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Bedzet) Pacoli or someone else, they offered scholarships, technical equipment and they finished the business easily, Dacic said.

He added that unlike Kosovo representatives, Serbia's officials believe it is enough just to appear and explain the developments since the Kosovo Battle in 1389 to date.

No good could ever come out of it, Dacic said and added that Serbia will either conduct a realistic policy or a policy that belongs in literature. We can conduct this policy as well, Dacic said and added that according to this policy, it is more important to lose battles with honour, but he noted that he will not be a part of this battle because he wants Serbia to win because the country needs victories and results.
