The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) said on Friday the Kosovo platform by President Tomislav Nikolic was an expression of optimal wishes by the Serbian people regarding a solution to the Kosovo issue and added it was willing to help find the best solution.

"It stresses in detail the high level of political and territorial autonomy for the Serb municipalities, control over the police, trade, economy, healthcare and education in those municipalities and a special status for northern Kosovo and the Serb enclaves," says the letter delivered to the media.
The committee says Kosovo's right to direct cooperation with Belgrade is included together with its demilitarization with suitable guarantees.
"Special ties concerning the Serbian Orthodox Church, special rights for the Serbs in Kosovo and return of the displaced is stressed as well.
"The realization of these principles should be the work on harmonizing the political views by the president, parliament speaker, prime minister and all relevant institutions in the society," SANU stated.
SANU will on its part help find solutions by working within the committee for Kosovo and its own bodies.
Nikolic said in November he would seek advice from SANU on how Serbia and its people should face their greatest challenge, the issue of Kosovo.
