Dacic: Southern Serbia is not topic for Brussels

Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated Monday that developments in southern Serbia should not be confused with talks between Belgrade and Pristina authorities and added that southern Serbia has never been one of the topics in dialogue conducted in Brussels.

"What does that (dialogue in Brussels) have to do with Presevo? Besides, these are Albanian flags flying in Presevo, not Kosovo's. And why should we talk about an escalation in violence, when this was not a cultural or historical monument at all?" Dacic told the press at the Palace of Serbia.

He stated that he had received information Monday that some 500, 600 people carrying Albanian flags have gathered in Presevo.

"Is this Albania and what does this have to do with Kosovo?" the prime minister asked, adding that this proves that Kosovo is an attempt to create a false state, that is an attempt to show that this is all Albania.

"That is why I said that we should negotiate with Albania, but no one listened to me," Dacic noted.

When asked whether the situation in southern Serbia might affect the talks in Brussels, considering reactions coming from Pristina, Dacic said this would be the case if the dialogue depended on Belgrade and Pristina.

"I am confident that neither Pristina nor Belgrade decides on that," Dacic stressed, adding that southern Serbia and Kosovo-Metohija have never been associated with each other and that it was the international community that wanted it to be like this, not him.
