Southern Serbia will not be part of Kosovo

Serbia's Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajic said on Sunday the southern Serbia territory populated mostly by ethnic Albanians would not and could not be a part of Kosovo, because the Albanians there did not have international support for such a demand.

The Albanians in southern Serbia should turn their eyes towards Belgrade, and not Pristina and Tirana, he stated.
"The only good political solution for southern Serbia is to understand that it has to be and will remain a part of Serbia, that there are no ideas involving border changes that can be achieved," he told Radio Belgrade.

No one expects, and it is not realistic, for the Albanians in southern Serbia to, emotionally speaking, put more trust in Belgrade than in Pristina or Tirana, but, in the political sense, they should not be unrealistic.

It is possible for the officials of ethnic Albanians in southern Serbia to try and take advantage of the removal of the monument to extremists of the so called Liberation Army of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja in Presevo, but those attempts will fail because the EU is focused on peacefully solving issues and normalizing the relations between Belgrade and Pristina, he said.

The EU will not allow anything to threaten the process, he noted.
