Vulin: Apartheid against Serbs in Kosovo

Aleksandar Vulin, director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo, has stated that apartheid against Serbs is being implemented in Kosovo today, which has been confirmed by battering of ten Serbs in Gracanica.

Vulin conferred with ten young Serbs who were arrested by the Kosovo police in Gracanica after the Christmas liturgy on January 7, and who disclosed after the release from custody that they had been physically maltreated and brutally battered both in the police and the court during the hearing.

After the release, three of them asked for medical help, and one was kept in hospital for more severe injuries.

This case shows that Serbs in Kosovo do not have the same rights as other citizens, Vulin stated at a press conference after the talks, stressing that 21 days have passed with no results of the investigation.

He noted that representatives of the international community and all investigative bodies have been presented with medical evidence, statements of witnesses and victims, and the fact that the victims have recognized the attackers in photos.

There is not even a bit of doubt that they were tortured and brutally battered, Vulin said, calling for results of the investigation as soon as possible.

He said that this is the last test for the international community which is to show whether it supports the apartheid against Serbs in Kosovo, adding that this will be obvious in case of a lack of results of the investigation and fast judgment, and if this proves not to be the last case in which Serbs are beaten up just because they are Serbs.

Vulin said that this is also a test which will show whether the international community wants to build up relations with Serbs that is whether Serbs should have trust in it.

Ten young Serbs from Leposavic were arrested by the Kosovo police on the Orthodox Christmas Day under the pretext that they endangered general security and wore symbols of civil protection.

However after giving testimonies, an indictment was raised charging them with violation of the public peace and order and disrespect of police orders.
