Institutions in north ensure Serbia's statehood

Leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Vojislav Kostunica stated on Friday that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic is cancelling Serbia's statehood in Kosovo, adding that it is more honourable to resign than to be 'an accomplice in the handover of Kosovo'.

He qualified the statement issued by the Serbian president to mark the Statehood Day as the announcement of annulment of Serbia's statehood in KiM. In a release posted on the DSS website, Kostunica noted that what the Serbian president styles as parallel institutions are actually the institutions of the Republic of Serbia in Kosovo, and added that their shutdown or replacement by Kosovo's institutions are nothing but the annulment of any official sign of Serbia's presence in Kosovo. The DSS leader stated that this means that on the Statehood Day, the Serbian president made public the plans for the handover of Serbia's statehood to Albanian separatists. “I know that a number of untrue statements would be made in advance so as to conceal the truth behind the handover of Serbia's statehood in Kosovo, but I must warn you that not a single Serb would ever hand over Kosovo of his own free will,” Kostunica noted. “It would be far more honourable to resign than to act as an accomplice in the handover of Kosovo,” the DSS leader said. According to him, DSS revealed the truth by the statement and kept its hands clean, while the Serbian president can once more examine the possibility of refusing to serve as an accomplice in the robbery of Serbian territory and act in keeping with the oath he took upon appointment. The Serbian president stated on Thursday that Kosovo institutions headed by Serbs are about to be set up and added that Serbia aims to get the date of EU accession talks without renouncing its sovereignty or humiliating itself. Replying to a question in a programme broadcast by Television Pink as to whether parallel institutions in northern Kosovo would be legalised, Nikolic said that new Kosovo institutions would be set up which would be run by Serbs.
