Bratislav Dikic, the commander of the Serbian police's special forces, the gendarmerie, said the injuries were sustained when a group of ethnic Albanians armed with automatic weapons attacked a gendarmerie patrol in the Serbian village of Borovac, close to the border with Kosovo, on Sunday night. "There were no consequences for the members of the gendarmerie, while information from the Kosovo police shows that six people of Albanian nationality were injured," Dikic told Tanjug news agency on Monday. Locals said that a group of armed Albanians crossed the administrative boundary from Kosovo and attempted to illegally cut down trees. According to Dikic, a tractor loaded with timber was found at the scene, along with two chainsaws. Kosovo police have also confirmed that six Albanian men who came to cut down trees were injured. "They were taken to the Kosovo University Clinical Centre,” Kosovo police said in a press release, adding that another Albanian was also injured while leaving the area where the incident took place. Kosovo police said they had launched an investigation into the case.
