In the first six months, a total of 412 requests arrived from Kosovo, reads a statement by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior. The number of asylum requests from Kosovo continuously increased each month, and reached its peak in June. Austria sees Kosovo migrants as economic refugees searching for a job, so the rate of asylum approval is quite low. Moreover, the Austrian Embassy in Kosovo constantly points to poor prospects of winning an asylum and warns about irresponsible promises of agencies. From January to June, a total of 8,201 asylum requests arrived in Austria, which is an increase of around 12 percent compared to the same period in 2012 (7,339). The number of requests increased due to increasing number of asylum seekers from Kosovo, Morocco, Algiers, Nigeria, Syria, Pakistan and the Russian Federation.
