Attackers on Serbian checkpoint near Bujanovac convicted
A mixed panel of international and local judges at the Basic Court in Gnjilane in Kosovo-Metohija sentenced 10 people to 59 years and nine months in prison in total for a terrorist attack on the Serbian checkpoint in the vicinity of Bujanovac, in the south of central Serbia.

The panel of judges ascertained that the convicts had set up an organized group which carried out an armed attack on the Serbian checkpoint near Bujanovac in 2012, EULEX announced on Thursday. In its argument, the panel concluded that the group wanted to incite conflict in the Presevo Valley so as to force the international community to intervene. Valjon Jasari was found guilty of committing an act of terrorism and organizing a terrorist group, and will face nine years in prison and a fine of EUR 1,000. Skender Jasari was convicted of terrorism and involvement in a terrorist group, and will face eight years in prison. Gazmend Ljakna, Cendrin Dzemsiri, Muhamed Aliju, Skender Seljmani and Abdulah Zogalj were sentenced to the total of five years and six months in prison for terrorism and involvement in a terrorist group. Gazmend Dzemsiri and Enver Musoli were also found guilty of committing an act of terrorism and being part of a terrorist group, and sentenced to the total of six years and six months in prison. Jeton Sabani was found guilty on charges of illegal purchase, sale and use of weapons, and will face a prison sentence of two years and two months. The court proceedings were run by an international prosecutor with the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo, the release reads.
