Jakup Krasnici examined as war crimes suspect

Kosovo parliament speaker Jakup Krasnici was interrogated by the EULEX Special Prosecutor's Office on Friday as a suspect in war crimes against civilians in 1998 and 1999.

Upon exiting the EULEX office, neither Krasnici nor his escort issued any statements.The Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office has no comments regarding the event, EULEX spokesman Bljerim Krasnici told The news agency.Jakup Krasnici served in the Headquarters of the para-military formation of Albanian separatists in Kosovo called the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Krasnici could be included in the indictment raised against seven members of the Drenica Group, including KLA supreme commander Sulejman Selimi famous for his wartime nickname Sultan, and Sami Ljustaku, the wartime commander of the Drenica Group who won 90 percent of Albanian votes in the November elections and was re-appointed as mayor.Members of the Drenica Group were charged with war crimes against civilians, mainly Serbs, committed in the KLA prison camp in Likovac in 1998.
