Kosovo Police Charged With Violence Against Serbs
EU prosecutors in Kosovo have indicted 11 members of a special police unit for alleged violence against ten Serbs in Pristina at Orthodox Christmas in January.

The EU rule-of-law mission in Kosovo, EULEX, announced the indictments on Thursday, saying that “the defendants are charged with mistreatment during exercise of official duty or public authorisation”.The charges relate to alleged violence by the police’s Regional Operational Support Unit against ten Kosovo Serb detainees on January 8, 2013.“The ten Kosovo Serb injured parties were arrested by KP [Kosovo police] officers on 7 January 2013, Orthodox Christmas, detained overnight in the Pristina Detention Centre and released on 8 January 2013 following a hearing at the Minor Offences Court Pristina,” EULEX said in a statement.“The alleged violence occurred while being escorted by Kosovo Police officers from the Special Operations Unit from the Detention Centre to the Minor Offences Court and at the Minor Offences Court on 8 January 2013,” the statement said.The Regional Operational Support Unit is generally deployed when forced entry is needed when police are executing search warrants, as well as during riots or in other disturbances when crowd control is needed.
