Polling stations in northern Mitrovica close

A total of 33 polling places in seven polling centres closed in northern Kosovska Mitrovica at 7 p.m. where citizens cast their ballots for the mayor of the city in north Kosovo.

Citizens who were at the polling stations by the closing have the chance to cast their ballots and the polling centres officially closed at 7 p.m. According to the latest information, a total of 28,429 citizens with the right to vote were able to cast their ballots for the mayor of northern Mitrovica in the re-run vote on Sunday. Ballots will be counted at the spot immediately upon the closing of the polling stations and the preliminary results will be released late on Sunday. The elections in Kosovska Mitrovica were carried out without any incidents and EULEX police, Kosovo Police Service and KFOR soldiers reinforced their units in the streets and in the vicinity of the polling stations.
Citizens were able to cast their ballots for one of the four candidates, that is Goran Rakic of the Citizens' Initiative Srpska, Oliver Ivanovic of the Citizens' Initiative 'Freedom, Democracy, Justice', Musa Miftari of the Democratic League of Kosovo and Fljorent Azemi of the Democratic Party of Kosovo. The Sunday elections are the fourth attempt in less than four months to appoint northern Mitrovica mayor.
