Ivanovic tells his wife he will persist in hunger strike

Oliver Ivanovic was permitted to use the phone for a call to his family on Saturday and he told his wife that he will persist in his hunger strike, as remaining in detention in Pristina is no less a danger to his life than the strike itself.

According to a statement issued by the Citizens’ Initiative ‘Serbia, Democracy, Justice’ (GI SDP), of which Ivanovic is the leader, the call was very brief, given Ivanovic's weakness from refusing to eat for the fifth consecutive day.He asked to be transferred from the detention unit in Pristina to a detention unit in Kosovska Mitrovica. The release said that a request was submitted yesterday to allow a doctors’ team from the Health Center in Kosovska Mitrovica to visit Ivanovic, but no answer has arrived yet, and in the meantime, his condition is acutely deteriorating by the hour.“We urge all international institutions, especially the EULEX Prosecutors Unit, to allow the transfer of Ivanovic, because it is the minimum requirement and represents a replacement of one prison by another, a safer one,” the GI SDP said.
“We are asking: Who is playing with the life of this one man and his family?” the GI SDP release said.
