Ban meets EU presidency, plans to meet Bush
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon met with Danilo Tirk, the president of Slovenia – which presides over the EU – and is scheduled to meet US President George W. Bush later this week over the issue of Kosovo.

Tirk said in New York that the question of recognition of Kosovo's independence was not a matter for the UN, but for sovereign states.
Once sovereign states give their say, "the UN will be back in the game" and play a certain role in Kosovo, Tirk said.
Ban will meet Bush on Friday, and Kosovo will be one of the key topics, according to the White House.
The UN chief has been pressed by the West lately to open the way for the deployment of the European Union mission to Kosovo, which he firmly resisted so far. However, European officials have said that Brussels expects Ban to "recognize the new reality" once Kosovo Albanan leaders declare independency, likely on Sunday.
