The two presidents discussed a recent decision by Moscow to establish cooperation with Abhazia and South Ossetia, two separatist regions in Georgia.
Moscow's move "is in its principle different from the politicized and illegal decisions of several countries about the recognition of the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo, which have a character of a precedent", Putin said.
He said Russia's moves are in full legality and exclusively based on social and economic relations with the two regions, which is a key difference from the Kosovo case.
Meanwhile, in Belgrade, Slovak Foreign Affairs minister Jan Kubis reiterated his country's opposition to Kosovo's independence and assured that Bratislava will not recognize a decision contrary to international law.
