Ambassador Le Luong Minh reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent position of respect for the independence and territorial integrity of sovereign states and expressed his concern about the negative implications of the Kosovo's declaration.

"The unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo was not in conformity with resolution 1244 which the UN Secretary General has affirmed remains in force and constitutes the legal framework for the mandate of UNMIK pending guidance from the Security Council," Minh said.

He said he shared the UN Secretary General's view that any violence directed at UNMIK's personnel or facilities or against members of any of Kosovo's communities is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

The diplomat urged UNMIK to continue its mandate in the spirit of Resolution 1244 to ensure security in Kosovo.
