UN and Belgrade discussing technical issues on Kosovo

The UN office in Belgrade is discussing with Serbian authorities about technical issues related to Kosovo, UNMIK spokesman Sven Lindholm said on Wednesday.

He said Unmik would remain in Kosovo until the UN Security Council decides otherwise.

"UNMIK will have to act in accordance with the politicial situation on the terrain, and in this sense, we will have to reconfigure the mission as the situation may require it", Lindholm said.

Explaining the significance of the word "reconfiguration", Lindholm said: "We use the word reconfiguration and not transition because reconfiguration is evolving our work and tasks according to the situation on the ground...until the day we leave".

He explained that the UN Office had received an initiative from New York to look into all the matters that jeopardised UNMIK's mandate.

UNMIK will not be directly engaged in these talks, Lindholm said.
