Russia to take part in restoring Orthodox shrines in Kosovo

On the instruction of Russian president Vladimir Putin, the Russian Foreign Ministry is working out a plan for Moscow's participation in the restoration of Orthodox holy places in Kosovo under a UNESCO project.

"The required organizational and expert resources will be  provided on our part; for instance, highly qualified Russian  architects, designers, technologists and art experts will be  dispatched to Kosovo for the restoration work," the ministry said.

Over 150 unique Serb Orthodox churches and monasteries,  including those on the UNESCO World Heritage list, were destroyed in Kosovo since 2000.

UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura made a call to the international community for assistance in the restoration  of religious, historic and architectural monuments in Kosovo.
