Unmik is opposed to preventing by force Serbian elections from being held in Kosovo, its spokesman Alexander Ivanko said in Pristina.

"As you can probably imagine, I don't think that it will be a great idea to try to prevent them by force. I don't think anybody wants that", Ivanko said, adding, however, that Unmik considers Serbian municipal elections to be "illegitimate".
Serbia will organize parliamentary and - for the first time since 1999 - municipal elections in Serb areas in the province.
Kosovo Albanian leaders in Pristina are opposed to the move, while the issue of local elections has split the UN Security Council.
