Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer warned on Thursday against unilateral moves on the future status of Kosovo, arguing it would have negative consequences on the entire region.

He expressed hope that the talks on the future status of Kosovo would lead to a solution which would be acceptable for everyone, for the UN Security Council and for Russia.

Gusenbauer said he still believed that the rejected plan by Martti Ahtisaari was the best way for a sustainable solution.

The Austrian Foreign minister Ursula Plassnik said that it was obvious that Serbia had problems with the Ahtisaari plan for the supervised independence of Kosovo.

"Kosovo must not become a problem for the entire region and block its steps towards Europe", she said.
