Moscow has called for a special NATO-Russia council meeting on Kosovo, fearing orchestrated violence in the province, Russian ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin told KosovoCompromise.com.

"Russia fears violence in the province, violence which could be orchestrated, and which could be used to explain why the UN should leave its mandate to the EU. This is totally unacceptable for us. We believe the UN should stay in Kosovo", Rogozin said.

"It is clear the Kosovo Serbs are not interested in UN departure. Everyone knows this, and it is evident that violence will not be provoked by the Serbs", the Russian ambassador said.

Rogozin asked for a special NATO-Russia Council session on Kosovo to be held in late June or early July.

He also fiercely criticized NATO plans to train future Kosovo "security forces".

"These actions are in line with the Ahtisaari plan, which is against the UN resolution 1244. Thus, these actions are not in line with international law", Rogozin said.

He reminded about  the decision by US president George W. Bush to send arms to the Kosovo Albanian leadership in Pristina and called it a "scandalous breaking of international law".
