Necessary investigation on organ trafficking

Serbian Minister of Social Policy Rasim Ljajic and Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg have concluded in their talks that it is necessary to run a thorough and independent investigation under the auspices of the UN, regarding the trafficking in human organs in Kosovo and Albania, during 1999 and 2000.

It is necessary in order for UN investigative bodies to have the jurisdiction in the Albanian territory, said Ljajic, adding that the protection of potential witnesses is of the essential importance in that process. The minister has stressed that Serbia had full moral right to ask for the initiation of that investigation, because it has fulfilled most of its obligations towards the Hague Tribunal, including the extradition of Ratko Mladic.

Thomas  Hammerberg has expressed full support to the Serbian authorities in their effort to research the claims of Rapporteur Dick Marty, who had accused former leaders of the terrorist KLA for participation in organized crime and monstrous trade in organs of the kidnapped Serb civilians.
