Blast rocks Kosovska Mitrovica, no one injured

A blast caused by an explosive device rocked northern Kosovska Mitrovica early Tuesday, injuring no one but damaging a passenger vehicle.

The regional chief of the Kosovo police Zeljko Bojic told Tanjug that the blast took place shortly after 3 a.m., when an unknown perpetrator activated what was most likely a hand grenade.The explosion took place near a building and by the road leading to the local hospital in Kosovska Mitrovica.Investigative police units were on the scene after the incident, Bojic said.The motives and the perpetrator remain unknown, the police said.The blast unsettled the residents who live nearby.Office for KiM condemns blast in Mitrovica.The Serbian government’s Office of Kosovo-Metohija (KiM) condemned a blast that occurred in Kosovska Mitrovica in the KiM north on Tuesday and demanded that those responsible be immediately found and punished.“The explosion is yet another incident that leads to harassment of citizens and that adds to the fragile security situation in the north of the province,” the statement said.“We demand that the competent authorities perform their duties responsibly and that this incident does not end with this site visit. We expect from the international community to ensure peace and security for all citizens of Kosovo in accordance with their mandate,” the KiM Office said.One of the key decisions from the Brussels agreement requires normalization of life in KiM, at it is binding for all parties, the KiM Office also said.An explosive device was thrown in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica early this morning. Material damage was caused to the building and one passenger car in front of it, but no injuries have been reported.
