Kaidanow has been the head of the US office in Pristina, and as such instrumental in coordinating Washington's support for the ethnic Albanian decision to unilaterally secede from Serbia.

She had been for a long time involved in the region - in particular in Skopje in 1998-99, when she was special Kosovo assistant to U.S. ambassador Christopher Hill, and thus key was preparing the field for NATO's bombings of Serbia in 1999.
